About Dribble for the Cure
As part of St. John's 2012 University Service Day, the St. John's University basketball teams are joining forces with the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation for the inaugural "Dribble for the Cure" event on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 from 10a.m. to 12:15p.m. The Dribble will take place on the Queens campus of St. John's University, with registration at Carnesecca Arena, and the event festival taking place at DaSilva Memorial Field.
Head coaches Steve Lavin and Kim Barnes Arico, the Red Storm men's and women's basketball teams and the St. John's Department of Athletics have dedicated their support for this inaugural event. It will raise funds for Dr. Mitchell S. Cairo and the Pediatric Cancer Research Laboratory at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester County Medical Center, New York Medical College.
This is a fun-filled family event, where participants will be given the opportunity to meet the St. John's basketball teams and head coaches. Participants are asked to bring their own basketball and "Dribble for the Cure" on a course winding through the St. John's campus and ending at Carnesecca Arena. In addition there will be an event festival at DaSilva Memorial Field on campus that will feature games and refreshments. Get autographs and photos with your favorite players and coaches. Kickoff the event with the St. John's cheerleaders and band. Each participant will be asked to collect pledges for their "dribble" and will be eligible for prizes based on the amount of pledge money turned in by the date of the event. In addition, each registered participant will receive a "Dribble for the Cure" t-shirt and goodie bag.
